UNIQUE WOODWORKING TOOL. Spring Loaded Nail Set
Unique Woodworking Tool – The Spring Loaded Nail Set
I found another tool great for home woodworking, but also be very useful for the professional.
There’s an alternative to traditional nail sets for those of you who are hammer challenged and for tight places for experts where you have to get in tight places where its hard to swing your hammer.
This is a spring actuated nail set and punch. There’s no hammer required and its easy to use in tight places. You’ve rove a nail as far as you dare. You know, another couple of whacks, you’re going to starting to put this edge and this OG in jeopardy. Now is the time you get ahead and take your nail set, set it on there. Just take your time, just keep the little pressure towards the nail head and it drives it right down and right below the surface. Simply take your favorite spackle fill it in, ready to paint.
A truly unique feature about this nail set unlike a conventional nail set. Although you may have room to get in here to drive a finish nail because its being adjacent to this corner. If you try to get a nail set in there and a hammer to drive at the same time, its not going to work. You’re going to damage up your wall.
With the spring loaded nail set, even in tight spaces, it’s easy to get that nail set down flush or below the surface. Now I know that some of you are going to say, “Yeah that works fine on a little six penny nail through some soft pine but Im dealing with hardwood and trim nails, or 16 penny nail for exterior.” As you can see in the video, this thing has plenty of power.
So there you go the spring drive nail set and punch. So there you go the hammer free spring drive nail set and punch. Great for those people who have a hard time hammering in tight place or even for experts..

Havent we all. Luckily way back when Sears had a surplus store at the Midway distribution center in Chicago and me and my dad lived there getting Craftsman tools for half and less. How many of us as kids used the long screwdrivers as throwing knives? LOL

Yep old type tools …
Yep old type tools are coming back as “new” in a lot of markets but it’s too bad they are low quality junk from overseas rather than good quality like they should be. Remember Yankee screwdrivers? Saw one in a catalog the other day (forget which one, was a tool supply here in KY) but I have one that was old when my dad got it as a kid in the late 30′s. I have his of course. My brother went more for the newer tools my dad had, I know the uses and quality of the older ones.

Really! I had no idea they have been around so long. I believe they are making a comeback thou I have seen many in the last couple years showing up on job sites again! Thanks +++Bob
I have one of those …
I have one of those made by Stanley in the 50′s from things I got between my brother and I from my dad’s estate. 50+ yrs old and it still works like new. I havent seen these in stores but then I havent looked either. There’s also a type you push and it fires but the only kind I see new are for center punching anymore, the ones I have are 1960′s vintage. Of course the quality of the old ones is much better than the low grade Chinese tools out now but for a DIY even a cheapo tool will work.
